If you feel like your world is looking a little brighter; you're probably right.

According to NASA nighttime lights around U.S. cities shine 25 to 50% brighter during Christmas and New Year’s when compared to the less festive months. And of course the reason for this is the holiday light displays that in some cases can actually be seen from space.

NASA scientists say that typically lights start getting brighter on black Friday and continue the high power illumination through New Year’s Day. But this year the grid got an early boost. Because the time between Thanksgiving and Christmas was a week shorter people started decorating before the turkey had its big day.  read more »

Flying With a Comet

A German travel agency is offering an out of this world experience and the cost might surprise you.

Eclipse Travel is joining forces with the charter agency Air Partner and airline Air Berlin to give people a bird’s eye view of a comet. On March 16th the comet Pan-STAARS will pass through the solar system one hundred million miles from earth.

So to get people a little bit closer a Boeing 737 jet will zig-zag 37,000 feet above the ground. The travel agency says they are only selling tickets to 88 people so everyone can have a window seat. There will also be an astronomy expert on board to answer questions and discuss the comet.  read more »

Nasa's New Suit

NASA is testing out a new space suit, and it’s perfect for the red planet.

The NDX-1 space suit was developed by aerospace engineer Pablo De Leon. And to test its use for a possible trip to Mars, NASA subjected the suit to the extreme conditions of Antarctica. The $100,000 suit consists of more than 350 materials. This includes Kevlar and carbon fibers to reduce the weight of the suit without it losing resistance.  read more »

Las Vegas based Bigelow Aerospace is hiring and the only qualifications you need are a love for dried food and past experience, in space.

NASA’s shuttle fleet is scheduled to be retired at the end of this year. And with no plans for a successor, thousands of workers are expected to be laid off, including astronauts. And of the 500 astronauts with space flight experience Bigelow Aerospace is looking to hire about 45 space walkers to staff an orbital space complex.  read more »
