Forbes media is looking for financial aid.

The president and CEO of Forbes media says the family owned magazine is on the market. In a letter to employees Mike Perlis says Forbes media is receiving a lot of interest from potential buyers. He says the sudden attention means it's time to make a decision. Now they’re testing the waters of a possible sale by hiring Deutsche bank to represent them and sift through potential suitors.

Forbes says this decision was a long time coming. It says like other magazine publishers the company is dealing with an advertisement and consumer shift from the printed page to a digital screen.  read more »

Women are busting through the glass ceiling; any way they can.

Forbes just released its annual list of the one hundred most powerful women in the world. On it are the usual politicians and CEO's. A few activist billionaires and influential celebrities made the cut as well. But this year a new breed of power is moving up through the ranks.

That includes next-generation entrepreneurs, technologists and women whose main job is to give back. For example author JK Rowling comes in at number 93. She is the first author to make more than a billion dollars thanks to her seven part Harry Potter series. Number 90 is Sara Blakely who developed Spanx out of her home. Now few women, most of the ones on this list included can go without the figure enhancing undergarment.  read more »

Nowhere to Shop

The country is still recovering from the recession; and for some companies the cure could mean closing doors.

According to Forbes many retailers are now realizing they overbuilt; and the only way to stay in business is by closing stores and outlets. Last year American chain stores announced they were closing about 3,000 locations. This was down from the 5,000 that closed the year before. But we aren’t out of the water yet because 2012 is going to bring closures from some of the biggest stores in business.  read more »

Fictional Fortunes

Wonder how much your favorite fictional character makes? Chances are it’s more than you.

Forbes launched an investigation into the wealth and assets of some of the characters populating your books, movies and TV shows. Forbes says their net worth estimates are based on an analysis of the character’s main source of revenue valued against how much it is worth in the real world.

For example the wealthiest imaginary character is Scrooge McDuck. He came in with an estimated wealth of $44.1 billion. Forbes says most of Scrooge McDuck’s wealth is in gold which went up 30% this past year.

Jed Clampett of “The Beverly Hillbillies” saw his net worth grow to $9.5 billion thanks to rising oil prices.  read more »
