Dr. Doom
Everyone says it's dangerous to play God, but what about playing the grimreaper?
Doctors at the Steere House Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Rhode Island have a four legged business tactic to help prepare patients for the other side. Oscar, a cat who the home adopted has displayed an unusual talent for lying on the bed of someone about to pass away.
Nurses at the facility say he has accurately predicted about 50 deaths. Dr. David Dosa says there is no scientific evidence to explain Oscar's ability but believes the cat may be responding to a smell of pending death that the human nose can't detect. And now Dr. Dosa is using Oscar's nose to spread the positive word about the business of nursing homes. He has just released a book titled "Making Rounds With Oscar: The Extraordinary Gift of an Ordinary Cat." Dr. Dosa says he wrote the book so people wouldn't think of nursing homes as dark, dingy places and Oscar as the Dr. of Death chasing business away. In fact, Dr. Dosa says Oscar's presence helps family members prepare themselves for the worst. Still, I'm not sure I'd check into a place where someone will let me know when it's time to check out.
